Any Source to Any Destination

Overview

One of the greatest strengths of vis|ability is its ability to unify information from many different systems into a single operational view. Traditionally, operators have been forced to manage multiple applications, video systems, and files separately — creating inefficiency and the risk of missing critical details. vis|ability solves this problem by treating all sources as first-class citizens, making them available across the platform for display, collaboration, and decision support.

Supporting Every Source Type

vis|ability was designed to handle the diverse mix of content that modern operations depend on. Whether generated from a network stream, a workstation application, or a capture device, sources can all be brought into the platform and displayed wherever they’re needed.

Supported Source Types Include:

Source Type Description
Application

• Processes running on the Display Node that can be controlled within vis|ability.
• Examples: SCADA/HMI, radar systems, GIS applications, CAD tools, Microsoft Office applications, and operational dashboards.

Streaming Media

• Live video from IP cameras and encoders.
• Supports RTSP, ONVIF, unicast, and multicast streams.
• Includes DVR/NVR playback streams.

Graphics • Static image files such as PNG, JPG, GIF, and TIFF.
• Often used for maps, schematics, diagrams, or situational reference graphics.
Media • Stored video files for playback within vis|ability.
• Useful for training clips, recorded broadcasts, or after-action review.
Network (Capture Client) • Operator desktops or computers with Capture Client installed.
• Includes Activu Display Devices, making any workstation screen a live, shareable source.
• Enables one operator to share their PC screen or workflow with others on the wall, in a Space, or via Web Client.
Direct Baseband Capture (RGB/DVI/HDMI/DP) • Captures direct video feeds from Content PCs (such as Controls or SCADA systems), laptops, mobile devices, or external players.
• Used when outputs cannot be captured via software (separate network, view-only needed, etc.)
WWW • Web pages and browser-based dashboards.
• Includes cloud-hosted platforms such as Splunk, AVEVA Insight, ServiceNow, or custom HTML-based applications.

By consolidating these types of sources, vis|ability enables operators to see live data, reference materials, applications, and even colleague workstations all in the same environment — without juggling multiple disconnected systems.

How we do it

vis|ability integrates all sources by ingesting them in their native form, managing them centrally in System Manager, and distributing them flexibly through drag-and-drop to any endpoint. The result is simple -  operators can pull everything into one picture and share it everywhere.

Ingestion

  • Sources come into the system through different paths:

    • Applications run directly on Display Nodes.

    • Streaming Media enters via IP (RTSP, ONVIF, multicast, unicast).

    • Graphics and Media files are stored and served from the platform.

    • Network (Capture Client) brings in operator desktops and Activu Display Devices.

    • Direct Baseband Capture ingests HDMI/DP/RGB feeds from Content PCs, laptops, or external devices.

    • WWW sources are added through browser integration.

Management

  • Once ingested, all sources are registered in System Manager, which provides:

    • A unified Source Tree for operators.

    • Centralized permissions and access control (who can see or use a source).

    • Integration with roles and groups so sources are shared appropriately across teams.

Distribution

  • Operators use the Desktop Client (drag-and-drop) to route sources.

  • Any source can be sent to any destination:

    • Video walls (via Display Nodes).

    • Operator desktops (push or share).

    • Shared collaborative views (Spaces).

    • Remote/mobile users (via Web Client).

Rendering

  • Display Nodes (or Web Client on remote devices) decode and render the content.

  • Whether it’s a live video feed, a web dashboard, a SCADA app, or a desktop stream, the rendering engine makes it visually consistent and responsive.

Why is this Important?

True Any-to-Any Integration: Visual Data Aggregation and Distribution

A defining capability of vis|ability is its any-to-any routing model. Unlike legacy AV switchers or siloed software platforms, vis|ability treats every source type equally — meaning any source can be shared to any destination in real time, with simple drag-and-drop.

With this model, an operator can:

  • Aggregate live video, SCADA dashboards, and GIS data into a single visual workspace on the video wall — giving teams a complete operational picture.
  • Distribute a critical schematic or procedure checklist alongside live camera feeds to both the control room and remote field staff.
  • Share an operator’s desktop or web-based dashboard via Capture Client to multiple end point locations, ensuring that specialized applications are visible wherever they’re needed.

Behind the scenes, the System Manager enforces permissions and routing policies, while Display Nodes ensure that the content is rendered accurately and responsively at its destination — whether on a wall, a workstation, or a mobile device. In seconds, everyone — from headquarters to field operators — is aligned around the same operational picture.

The result is true flexibility: any source, from any category, delivered to any destination.
