# System Manager - Minimum Hardware Requirements

**Overview**

The **System Manager** serves as the central management and configuration server for the **vis|ability** platform.

It hosts the core services responsible for registering, managing, and authenticating **Sources, Display Areas, Users, User Profiles, Permissions, and other vis|ability resources**. The System Manager also coordinates communication between these resources and authenticated endpoints throughout the vis|ability environment.

Customers and integration partners may provide their own System Manager hardware. When self-sourcing a physical System Manager server, the hardware must meet or exceed the minimum specifications outlined below.

> **These specifications represent minimum requirements.** Actual hardware requirements may increase based on system size, number of users and endpoints, stored media, additional services, redundancy requirements, and the overall deployment architecture.

**Minimum Server Specifications**

| **Specification** | **Minimum Requirement** |
| --- | --- |
| **Typical Use** | Small teams with low display requirements |
| **Operating System** | Windows Server 2019 or later supported version |
| **Processor** | Intel Core i7 12th Generation or higher, or equivalent |
| **CPU** | 12 Cores |
| **Memory** | 32 GB DDR4 RAM |
| **Storage** | 512 GB available storage |
| **Storage Type** | SSD highly recommended |
| **Network** | 2 × 1 Gbps Ethernet |
| **Dedicated GPU** | Not Required |
| **Video Input Hardware** | Not Required |
| **Video Output Hardware** | Not Required |

**Storage and RAID**

A minimum of **512 GB of available storage** should be provided for the System Manager. SSD storage is highly recommended.

For physical servers, **RAID 1 is suggested as the minimum level of storage redundancy, with RAID 5 recommended where appropriate**. Additional storage capacity may be required when the System Manager is used to store a significant amount of media content.

System Manager databases should also be incorporated into the organization's normal backup and recovery strategy. vis|ability databases are backed up locally by default, but this local backup should not be considered a replacement for an appropriate organizational backup strategy.

**Graphics and Video Hardware**

The System Manager performs **management, authentication, configuration, and coordination functions** within the vis|ability environment. It does not typically provide the physical outputs used to drive a display wall.

For this reason, a dedicated graphics card is **not required** for a standard System Manager deployment.

Likewise, video capture cards and dedicated video output cards are not required. These functions are typically performed by **Display Nodes** and other purpose-built vis|ability endpoints.

**Network Requirements**

The minimum physical System Manager specification includes **two 1 Gbps network interfaces**.

The actual network configuration depends on the design of the vis|ability environment. Multiple interfaces may be used to accommodate separate networks, VLANs, redundancy, or other project-specific requirements.

Network architecture should be evaluated as part of the overall system design rather than sizing the server based solely on the minimum network specification.

**Sizing Considerations**

The minimum specifications above establish the baseline requirements for operating a physical **vis|ability System Manager**. Actual requirements may vary based on the size, architecture, and intended use of the system.

Additional CPU, memory, storage, or network resources may be appropriate for systems with:

- Larger numbers of users, sources, displays, or endpoints
- Multiple locations
- Significant media storage requirements
- Additional services hosted on the System Manager
- Increased redundancy or availability requirements
- Anticipated system growth

For larger or more complex deployments, refer to **System Manager – Recommended / vis|ability Provided Hardware** or work with **vis|ability** to determine the appropriate configuration for the system design.
