System Manager – Recommended / vis|ability Provided Hardware

Technical Specifications for the vis|ability System Manager

Overview

The System Manager serves as the central management and configuration server for the vis|ability platform.

It hosts the core software services responsible for registering, managing, and authenticating system components including Sources, Display Areas, Users, User Profiles, Permissions, and other vis|ability resources. System Manager also coordinates communication between these resources and authenticated endpoints throughout the vis|ability environment.

For customers purchasing a complete vis|ability solution, vis|ability can provide a preconfigured System Manager server designed, configured, and validated for use with the platform.

This article describes the recommended and standard hardware configuration provided by vis|ability. It should not be interpreted as the minimum hardware specification required to operate System Manager.

Redundancy and Reliability

The standard vis|ability-provided System Manager configuration incorporates several features intended for production environments.

RAID 1 Storage
Two enterprise storage drives provide mirrored storage, allowing the server to maintain a duplicate copy of system data across both drives.

Redundant Power Supplies
Dual hot-plug power supplies are configured for 1+1 redundancy, allowing the server to continue operating from a single power supply if necessary.

Dual Network Interfaces
Two network interfaces provide flexibility for system network design and deployment requirements.

These capabilities help provide a robust hardware platform for the central services of the vis|ability system.

Rack and Power Planning

The standard Dell PowerEdge R360 System Manager requires 1U of rack space and includes dual redundant power supplies.

When planning the equipment rack, appropriate consideration should be given to:

    • Rack depth and equipment clearance
    • Power distribution
    • Redundant power connections
    • UPS capacity
    • Cooling and airflow
    • Network connectivity
    • Cable management
    • Service access

For additional information, see Rack Requirements & Planning and Power Requirements & Planning.

 Alternative or Customer-Provided Hardware

The Dell PowerEdge R360 represents the recommended and standard System Manager hardware currently provided by vis|ability. It does not represent the minimum hardware required to operate the software.

Customers and integration partners may provide their own System Manager hardware when appropriate.

For requirements when supplying an alternative physical server or virtual environment, see System Manager – Minimum Hardware Requirements.

Note: Standard hardware models and configurations may change over time as manufacturers introduce new platforms. Hardware supplied by vis|ability will be appropriately configured and validated for its intended system role.
