Network Schema Requirements

Overview

A complete and accurate network schema is a required prerequisite for any visability deployment. This document provides a clear picture of how all relevant systems are addressed and connected within the environment, allowing deployment and commissioning to proceed without unnecessary delays.

Without a defined network schema, even well-prepared environments can encounter avoidable issues during installation and configuration.

What must be Included

At a minimum, the network schema should include all systems that interact with visability, along with their key network details.

  • Device Name
A clear and consistent naming convention for each system
  • Device Type
(e.g., System Manager, Display Node, Encoder, Source System)
  • IP Address
Static IP assigned to the device
  • Hostname
    If DNS is in use
  • Subnet / Gateway
    Network configuration details
  • VLAN (if applicable)
    Identification of the network segment
  • Physical or Logical Location
Rack, room, site, or functional grouping

Who is Responsible?

The network schema is typically provided by the customer’s IT or network team, as they maintain ownership of the network environment.

However, it is often developed collaboratively with the deployment partner to ensure all required visability components are included.

Recommended Format and Submission

The network schema should be delivered in a format that is easy to read, update, and share with all project stakeholders.

Recommended Format

  • Excel Spreadsheet (Recommended)
A structured spreadsheet provides the most effective way to organize and review device information and allows for easy updates as the project evolves.

You can download the recommended template above to ensure all required fields are captured and formatted correctly.

  • Network diagrams may be included as a supplement, but should not replace the core device list and addressing table.

Submission Process

Once completed, the network schema should be formally shared with the appropriate project stakeholders.

  • Provide the finalized document to:
    • The project integrator, and/or
    • A member of the vis|ability deployment team
  • Ensure the document is:
    • Up to date and reflects the current environment
    • Reviewed internally by the customer’s IT or network team
    • Accessible to all required parties prior to commissioning
