# Integrating Genetec Security Center with vis|ability

**Overview**

vis|ability integrates with **Genetec Security Center** to bring live security camera feeds into a centralized visualization and collaboration environment. Through the Genetec Software Development Kit (SDK), vis|ability can access authorized cameras and make them available as sources throughout the vis|ability environment.

This integration allows organizations to combine live surveillance video with operational applications, dashboards, maps, workstation content, and other sources, creating a unified operational picture.

Rather than requiring operators to manage separate systems for surveillance and operational visualization, vis|ability provides a centralized interface for displaying and distributing relevant information.

**Key Capabilities**

- **Native VMS Integration:** Connects directly to Genetec Security Center through the Genetec SDK.
- **Camera Synchronization:** Imports and synchronizes authorized camera information from Genetec into vis|ability.
- **Centralized Visualization:** Displays live camera feeds alongside other operational sources.
- **Flexible Display Management:** Allows operators to incorporate camera feeds into video wall layouts and supported collaborative environments.
- **Secure Access:** Uses Genetec credentials and camera permissions to control which camera resources are available to the integration.

**How the Integration Works**

The integration uses three primary components: Genetec Security Center, the vis|ability System Manager, and vis|ability Display Nodes.

**1. Genetec Security Center**

Genetec Security Center remains the primary Video Management System (VMS), responsible for managing cameras, user permissions, and video distribution.

vis|ability establishes a connection to Security Center using the Genetec SDK and a dedicated integration account.

This account must have the appropriate permissions to access the cameras that will be displayed within vis|ability.

Genetec continues to manage the underlying camera infrastructure, while vis|ability provides the visualization and operational display capabilities.

**2. vis|ability System Manager**

The **vis|ability System Manager** serves as the central management component for the integration.

Using the Genetec Import Tool and supported camera synchronization functionality, authorized cameras can be imported into the vis|ability environment.

Once imported, these cameras become available as network sources that can be incorporated into layouts and distributed to supported destinations throughout the system.

The System Manager is responsible for:

- - - Establishing and maintaining the Genetec integration.
          - Importing and synchronizing authorized camera sources.
          - Managing source definitions, permissions, and layouts.
          - Coordinating content distribution to Display Nodes.
          - Supporting integration troubleshooting and validation.

The System Manager requires **one Genetec SDK license** to support camera importing, synchronization, and troubleshooting.

**3. vis|ability Display Nodes**

**vis|ability Display Nodes** are responsible for decoding and rendering live Genetec camera feeds on connected displays.

Each Display Node that will display Genetec cameras requires the appropriate Genetec viewer components, SDK dependencies, and licensing. When an operator places a Genetec camera onto a video wall, the Display Node uses the Genetec integration to retrieve and decode the authorized live video.

Because Genetec cameras are imported as network sources, they can be made available throughout the vis|ability environment. As a best practice, all Display Nodes should be configured to decode Genetec camera feeds, ensuring operators can display authorized cameras on any supported display destination.

**Genetec Licensing Requirements**

The integration requires Genetec SDK connection licenses, which must be purchased separately by the end customer through Genetec or an authorized Genetec sales channel.

**One Genetec SDK license is required for the vis|ability System Manager, plus one additional license for each vis|ability Display Node configured to decode Genetec camera video.**

**System Manager Licensing**

The vis|ability System Manager requires one Genetec SDK license to support:

- - - Connecting to Genetec Security Center.
          - Importing and synchronizing authorized cameras.
          - Managing and validating the integration.
          - Troubleshooting camera connectivity and integration issues.

**Display Node Licensing**

Each Display Node configured to decode Genetec camera video requires its own Genetec SDK license.

Licensing is based on the number of decoding systems, not the number of cameras displayed or physical monitors connected to each Display Node.

**Recommended Best Practice**

Genetec cameras are imported into vis|ability as network sources, making them available throughout the system.

**As a best practice, all vis|ability Display Nodes should be configured and licensed to decode Genetec camera feeds.**

This ensures operators can display authorized cameras on any video wall or display area without limitations based on the destination Display Node.

Exceptions may be made for Display Nodes specifically designated for non-surveillance applications, such as:

- - - Lobby displays.
          - Break room displays.
          - Informational signage.
          - Other dedicated display areas where Genetec camera content is not expected.

These Display Nodes may be deployed without Genetec SDK licensing or decoding components.

For standard system design and quoting, the recommended licensing model is **one SDK license for the System Manager, plus one for every Display Node**, excluding any Display Nodes specifically designated as not requiring Genetec camera access.

**Licensing Examples**

- - **1 System Manager + 1 Display Node:** 2 SDK licenses.
    - **1 System Manager + 2 Display Nodes:** 3 SDK licenses.
    - **1 System Manager + 3 Display Nodes:** 4 SDK licenses.
    - **1 System Manager + 5 Display Nodes:** 6 SDK licenses.

For a system with one System Manager and four Display Nodes, where one Display Node is dedicated exclusively to lobby signage and will never display Genetec cameras, the deployment would require **4 SDK licenses**: one for the System Manager and three for the participating Display Nodes.

**Documented Genetec SDK Part Number:** `GSC-1SDK-ACTIVU-VideoWall`

Genetec camera licensing and applicable vis|ability software licensing are separate from these SDK connection requirements. Licensing requirements and part number availability should be confirmed with Genetec before purchasing.
