Backup and Recovery Best Practices

Overview

Protecting your vis|ability system should be incorporated into your organization's existing backup and disaster recovery practices.

The most important component to consider is the vis|ability System Manager database, which contains the central configuration information used throughout your system, including Sources, Devices, Displays, User Rights, Permissions, and other system definitions.

Backing Up the vis|ability Database

By default, the vis|ability database is automatically backed up to the local system drive.

vis|ability recommends including this database in your organization's existing backup routine so that the backup is also protected outside of the local system. vis-ability on Your Network Gui…

Your organization's IT team should determine the appropriate backup frequency, retention period, storage location, and security requirements based on your existing IT and disaster recovery policies.

 System Manager and Disaster Recovery

System Manager is the central management component of the vis|ability platform and can be deployed using physical or virtual infrastructure depending on the requirements of the environment. vis|ability also supports architectures designed around high availability and disaster recovery.

The appropriate recovery strategy will therefore depend on how your specific vis|ability system was designed and deployed.

For environments where vis|ability is considered mission-critical, your System Manager and its database should be considered as part of your organization's broader business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

Keep Your Recovery Plan Simple

For most organizations, the key recommendations are straightforward:

  • Allow the built-in vis|ability database backup to operate as configured.

Include the resulting database backup in your organization's existing backup routine.

Follow your organization's normal backup retention and security policies.

Consider vis|ability as part of your broader disaster recovery plan where system availability is critical.

Contact your System Integrator or vis|ability before performing a recovery when assistance is needed.

A good backup strategy doesn't need to be complicated—it simply needs to make sure the information required to recover your vis|ability environment is protected when you need it.
