# Supported Operating Systems — vis|ability Components

## Windows software requirements to deploy specific components of the vis|ability system.

**Overview**

**vis|ability software is designed and supported for Microsoft Windows-based operating systems.**

Supported operating systems vary slightly depending on the vis|ability component being deployed. For new installations, current Microsoft Windows operating systems are recommended to provide the best combination of compatibility, security, and long-term support.

Non-Windows devices can still be used as content sources or, where applicable, to access browser-based vis|ability functionality.

 **macOS, Linux, and UNIX**

vis|ability software components are **not installed directly on macOS, Linux, or UNIX operating systems**. However, these devices can still be incorporated into a vis|ability environment as content sources.

Depending on the device and application, content may be made available using:

- - Network capture technologies such as VNC
    - Web-based sources
    - IP or streaming media
    - Video capture and encoding

This allows content from non-Windows systems to be displayed and distributed through vis|ability without requiring the endpoint itself to run vis|ability software.

**Supported Operating Systems**

| Component | Supported Operating Systems | Recommendation / Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Desktop Client** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Windows 11 Pro x64 recommended for new workstation deployments. |
| **Capture Client** | Windows 11 x64; Windows 10 x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Can be installed on supported physical or virtual Windows machines used as content sources. |
| **Administration Client** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Windows 11 Pro x64 recommended for new deployments. |
| **Base Client** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 | Typically installed as a supporting vis\|ability component. |
| **System Manager** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Windows Server is recommended when System Manager is deployed within a server or virtual environment. |
| **Display Node** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64 | Windows 11 Pro x64 recommended for new Display Node deployments. |
| **Web Client / Application Server** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Applies to the supporting server components. Web Client browser endpoints are device-agnostic. |
| **Web Portal** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Windows 11 Pro x64 is specified for the standard physical Web Portal configuration. |
| **Link Integrator** | Windows 11 Pro x64; Windows 10 Pro x64; Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 | Physical or virtual Windows deployment may be used as appropriate. |

 **Software Prerequisites**

Some vis|ability components require supporting Microsoft or third-party software.

| System Type | Prerequisites |
| --- | --- |
| **Client Workstations** | Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later |
| **Server Components** | Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.8 or later |
| **Display Nodes** | Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later; VLC 3.0.20 or later |

Additional software, drivers, or Windows components may be required depending on the components, source types, and hardware included in the system.

**Recommend Operating Systems for New Deployments**

For new vis|ability deployments, we recommend using a **current, supported Microsoft Windows operating system** whenever possible.

**Windows 11 Pro x64** is the preferred operating system for new workstation-based components, including Desktop Client, Capture Client, Administration Client, Base Client, and Display Node.

For server-based components such as **System Manager**, a current Windows Server (2022 or 2025) operating system may be used where appropriate for the customer's infrastructure.

Existing systems using an older supported operating system do not necessarily require an operating system change. Operating system upgrades should be evaluated as part of normal system lifecycle planning.

> **Note:** Operating system compatibility may vary by vis|ability software release. Before upgrading the operating system of an existing production system, confirm compatibility with the installed version of vis|ability.
